About us:

We are a Northern Michigan company, located in gorgeous Leelanau County, about 8 miles from Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Our company was founded by Angela Macke. Her background in Holistic health, as both Registered Nurse, and Horticulturalist, plus her own positive experience utilizing gentle, natural rhythms to restore balance in her own life as she managed an auto-immune disease she was experiencing, played an integral role in the intuitive creation of each and every blend of Tea. She believes that a holistic approach is the most effective way to restore optimal health and a sense of well being.

We believe in honest tea and honest advertising here. This means supporting local and foreign farmers through Fair Trade practices, growing and buying only 100% certified Organic and Fair trade Tea leaves, fruit, flowers, roots, bark, berries, then blending our finished product ourselves right here. We made sure that taste wasn't the only thing to feel good about!

We honor all of those involved in bringing this extremely labor-intensive crop from the fields to our cup: paying them a proper wage, and encouraging the spiritual sacredness of community. We love our neighbors by keeping the cash flow local. We always purchase domestic products first.

Our land: Our team of experienced Master Gardeners and Nurserymen have been growing organic herbs and flowers in the area since 1996. Our land and kitchen is both certified organic (Stellar certification Services) and Demeter certified Biodynamic. Our team members live a "Green" lifestyle, and we strive to promote other companies that support an ecologically sound alternative. We were named "Green Pioneers" in this area, and our founder, Angela Macke, was awarded the designation of "Environmentalist of the Year for business," and Light of Day Organics was just awarded "Best Small Business" in this region of our state.

Conscientious packaging: We believe in presenting these products in their most natural, loose form. They have been packaged in lovely, U.S-manufactured, polished silver tins to protect them from the elements. We use a local designer, and local printer for labels and packaging supplies. We are members of Coop-Green America, and minimize paper use and waste here in the office.

Production: Our products are grown organically, harvested by hand, dried to a very low moisture content, and then packaged with great care, in our licensed facility (Michigan Dept. of Agriculture, National Organic Program (Stellar certification services and Demeter Biodynamic) here in Northern Michigan. We blend all of our private recipe teas in small batches to promote consistency and maximize freshness.
